There’s this idea floating around that we should save our “good outfits” for special occasions.

Dinner dates. Vacations. Weddings.

why i always dress to go grocery shopping

But what if the most sacred occasion is your everyday life?

Last week, I threw on a red tennis dress and sneakers to run to the grocery store. Nothing fancy—just something that made me feel put together. My hair was toppled in a high bun and I had light everyday makeup. I wasn’t trying to impress anyone, but wanted to feel good in my skin.

But then something interesting happened.

Strangers smiled. Men offered to help me pick up a watermelon. I got a handful of compliments. One woman even stopped me to say, “You really got it going on!”

And in that moment, I realized this wasn’t about the dress.

It was about self-respect.

I was showing up for me. Even in a mundane moment. Even without a reason. And the energy I gave to myself was mirrored back.

Style Tip of the Week

Don’t save your style for someday. Elevate your “throw-on” looks with one intentional piece—a structured bag, bold lip, or statement earrings. Your future self will thank you.

Reflect:

What’s one outfit that makes you feel powerful?
And how can you wear a version of it in your everyday life—yes, even to Trader Joe’s?

Here’s your permission to show up fully—even when it’s “just” errands.

Because how you dress is a reflection of how much you value yourself.

Style isn’t superficial.
Style is self-respect.

There was a morning after my ex-husband moved out and I stood in front of my closet full of beautiful things and felt nothing. No desire to get dressed. No recognition. No self. I have been a regular style expert on television. I hosted fashion commentary for MetGala, Grammys and Oscars and I had helped […]

The uncomfortable truth about the world’s most romanticized style icon, CBK.

Let me say something the fashion internet is absolutely not going to like. There is a very specific kind of white feminine obsession with Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and it is time we talked about it honestly. After the viral sensation of Ryan Murphy’s “Love Story,” CBK (new nickname) has become a blueprint, a Pinterest board and minimalist personality. […]

How to Romanticize Your Life Again

There’s something magical about giving yourself permission to fall in love again—starting not with someone else, but with yourself. This weekend, I treated myself to a solo date at the ballet. I slipped on my gown that made me feel like a star, sat on the other side of the stage I once danced and […]
